This was supposed to be the movie that would reveal ‘everything you wanted to know about drugs but never knew’ – it isn’t. Still, Protégé is a pretty solid offering, as crime dramas go.

In this action thriller, Andy Lau plays drug lord Jong who portrays himself as a businessman. His pregnant wife (Anita Yuen) does not know about his illegal drug business. Nick (Daniel Wu) is an undercover officer who had spent the last eight years penetrating into the core of Jong’s drug sales ring and is working his way up to be Jong’s closest aide and “protégé”.
